Hannah Kwon, LCSW (MO)

Hannah Kwon is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri who joined the University Counseling Service team as a Professional Therapist in Spring 2025. She earned her Master of Arts in Social Work from Ewha Womans University in South Korea in 2000 and her Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas in 2005, continuing her career in the United States.
Hannah’s primary clinical focus is supporting individuals who have experienced complex trauma. She has completed EMDR Basic Training, beginning-level training in Somatic Experiencing and Suicide Prevention/Intervention trainings. She has also completed 150 hours of Play Therapy certificate coursework. In addition, her work is informed by approaches such as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
With over 16 years of experience in social work across non-profit organizations, Child Protective Services, and public schools, Hannah has dedicated her career to serving socioeconomically underrepresented individuals and empowering them toward self-sufficiency. She has worked extensively with vulnerable children—particularly those who have experienced complex trauma - focusing on their safety and emotional well-being. Her interventions have included individual and small group work to promote emotional regulation, anxiety management, resilience building, and trauma healing.
At the University Counseling Service, Hannah uses a strengths-based, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach to help students adjust to campus life, foster independence, manage academic stress and mental health needs, address relationship and identity concerns, and process both past and current trauma. She is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for students of all backgrounds, with a special dedication to those from culturally diverse communities.
 
Outside of work, Hannah enjoys cooking, walking in nature parks, visiting museums, and spending time with her husband of 25 years, Choongho, and their two sons, Samuel (23) and Stephen (19).
